When I received my ash vac today I unpacked it and immediately looked back at the packaging to see if it was damaged. The carton was intact, but the vacuum canister was badly out of round. It is fairly light gauge metal and I was able to squeeze it back into shape.
The vac has two filters, or maybe it should be considered three. There is a coarse woven pre-filter that spans the mouth of the canister. I am just guessing that this filter is woven glass fibers. The main filter is a small canister type filter and is protected by a perforated metal can (filter 3). The perforations are small enough that burning fly ash is unlikely to pass through it.
The hose of the vac is short, but adequately flexible for the job it has to do. It appears to be made of a spiral cut aluminum coil that is encapsulated in some sort of plastic. The hose comes with two end pieces. One piece is an aluminum tube which is sturdy enough but with it's larger cross section has limited ability to pick up large objects like fuel pellets. The other end piece is a crevice tool which does increase the ability to pick up large objects. Unfortunately the crevice tool is made of a material that quickly develops a static charge. It became coated inside and out with fly ash almost immediately. It can be wiped clean after use with a damp paper towel, but why would they chose that material?
As for performance, the vacuum works well enough. It was able to pick up the fly ash and some unburnt pellets from my pellet stove without any real difficulty.
My conclusion is that this vac is a reasonable value.

This vacuum sounded great but lasted less than a month. It worked fine for a couple of times but then suddenly just stopped working. I am really unhappy with this purchase!

This ash vac has more than enough power to get the job done, the cord and hose are long enough that you don't even need an extension cord to use it. I have been using mine to clean my pellet stove and it does a great job.
